When markets go down, there is not much money to go anywhere. Most of this "so called" money simply vanishes.

What we saw recently with runs on Countrywide Bank and others were people who had account balances greater than the insurance offered by the US government. They were typically withdrawing this excess money into accounts at other banks or US Treasury bonds.
