My husband has a black Lab guide dog, now retired, from Guiding Eyes for the Blind, which breeds its own dogs and is now cross-breeding Labs with goldens. There's a long waiting list of people who want dogs not suited for guide work. Another "ruined" breed is cocker spaniels. A lot of them seem suspicious and downright hostile - I observed this in an 8 week old puppy. We got lucky with our English cocker though - he's a sweetie.

And every time I turn around there seems to be a new breed I never heard of:

Nice dog, what is he?

This is Binky. He's a Lord Stempington Ridgedale Terrier.
