It started off as a mano-a-mano confrontation between Saddam and King George II, with Sunnis and Baathists cast as the bad guys. Of course, as predicted by that sage global expert on such things, the fight was over between the armies in the time it takes a Globalstar satellite to orbit Earth [just over 100 minutes]. The Iraqi soldiers were running for it in their undies. No WMDs. Also as predicted by the said military soothster, the guerilla war got under way not long afterwards. I even got the USA casualties right. It's as easy as falling off a log. If you do a search for cheese, ants and Mqurice, you'll also find my principles of warfare developed in 1974 when studying cheese, ants, their nests and conflict for possession. Briefly, a big piece of cheese [oil in this instance] strategically placed among ant nests, results in conflict for possession. Victory goes to not necessarily the biggest and toughest ants. It's a function of many variables, proximity to home base being an important one. Tiny little ants hiding in the grains of sand could defeat monster ants [100 times the size]. I didn't see many ants fighting to provide democracy to neighbouring nests. Mostly they were being tribal and going for the cheese. Of course people aren't ants. Our DNA and tribal processes are quite different. But there are similarities. The "hidden idea" is that the oil and place belong to various tribes in various areas. The religious Islamic Jihad thing is only part of the deal; not much more than a rallying point for the different tribes according to their colours. Before the invasion, I thought it was silly. The NUN was the way to handle the situation. But the invasion was fair enough in a dog eat dog world for Bush and Americas to want to fight Saddam. That's what pit bulls do. Saddam was giving what grief he could and would go on to do a lot more. But the outcome is now we have China readying for war over Taiwan, Russia flying nuke toting long range bombers on cold war expeditions, the USA getting first strike ready on Russia's borders, Islamic Jihad on the rampage anywhere they can. That is NOT a United Nations. Mqurice
