while largely Islamic (Turkey is 95% - 99% Islamic, depending on what source you believe), along with the Mediteranean edge of Turkey, is heavily influenced by European values. The beaches` look like Italian or French beaches; the women dress as Western women do. It has prosperity on par with much of Europe.

Then there's Ankara and east. Prosperity? What's that? In Western Turkey, the farmers plow their fields with tractors; here it's donkeys. In Western Turkey the men dress in western dress; here middle eastern dress is common, including Kufi skull caps

You think it means nothing? The Turks refused to allow th US to use Turkey (even from US bases already in Turkey under NATO) as a base for an invasion of Iraq from the north in addition to the south?

Allowing this took the approval of the Turkish parliament controlled by the Erdogan (Muslim) party. Not likely.
They gave "stirring up the Kurds within Turkey" as an excuse. They have since threatened to invade northern Iraq (the Kurdish part) if the country is split in 3.
