Quite right Nadine, the NUN doesn't exist. Neither did the Iraq war. But one was chosen as worthy of creating, the other was not.

I thought the choice was mistaken. Lots of people now think it wasn't such a hot idea too. I'd say a majority in Iraq and the USA [let alone around the world] think it is a loser. A majority of Iraqis maybe still think it was a good thing to invade and oust Saddam.

<the NUN doesn't actually exist you know, and never will >

That's an awfully long time.

The USA exists and if the world was made up only of the USA, it would exist now. So it's obviously doable. Germany used to me lots of little fiefdoms. Now it's one big country. So it was achieved there too. The EU is having a go at hashing a swarm of countries into one supranational system. So far it seems a reasonable effort.

The broad trend of humans over 1000s of years is to go along that line. But it breaks down due to internecine conflict. The USSR was one big thing, but based on force rather than voluntary association, so it fell apart when the shackles loosened.

Over many millennia, human geopolitical groups have increased in size. They were roaming bands of about 50 or so. Then 100s. Then 1000s. Then millions. Now there are two entities in the billions. Globalisation continues apace.

I have more in common with many foreigners than I do with many NZers. Supranationality seems a good idea to me.
