The only thing I believe is that significant architectural changes can result in significant performance diffences (think Core 2 IPC vs. P4 IPC). Whether or not barcelona will show such a huge improvement (or any improvement) I have no idea. Bandwidth to cache was increased by 100%. There were indications that had been a constraint. Whether it was limiting general performance by 1%, 100% or something in between, I don't know, but we should all find out soon. I'm guessing it's somewhere between the two numbers.... :-)
