I used quotation marks advisedly when I used the term "normal" in referring to gay choices and I used it within a temporal context, referring to the lack of choice if one were gay years ago. There were no civil unions, no gay adoptions, and general disapprobation and condemnation if one came out. They weren't given the option of "normal" in the sense of marriage and acceptance.

You then mentioned that gays don't want to be constrained by "normal", with which I took issue. You implied that there exists a definition of normal today that gays reject in toto based on your observance of gay parades.
