I told the cop I have owned this car for 10 years and never had a front plate on it. There are no holes, no mounting bracket no nothing. The bumper wasn't made for a front plate.

He looked shocked at first and went to inspect the front of the car again, came back and said, "you've never had a plate on there, ever". I wanted to say something to the effect of "brilliant deduction" but didn't because I didn't want to piss him off and get a ticket. Now I wish I had said something.

No, I didn't go to court. Honestly, I thought my cop buddy was going to talk to this guy and get the ticket dismissed. He talked to him and was as shocked as I was that the ticket was issued and he wasn't budging an inch.

Oh well, it's the law and I was breaking it.
