I know, Tim.....the American way of life is a sacred cow with you guys

The American way of life is pretty good for most Americans, but its hardly a sacred cow. If people want to live in very different ways, more power to them as long as they don't harm other people by doing so.

2 - The subject your changing it to is rather vague.

There is nothing vague about this subject......people have complained for years that the American lifestyle/culture is out of whack. And now, the statistics support their argument.

"The American lifestyle", is a rather vague subject. You can say all sorts of specific positive or negative things about it, but as a whole its a huge and uncertain thing, in other words its vague. It doesn't detail what issues your considering as part of the lifestyle and what issues are important to the argument your making. You would do better with focusing on each issue, or reasonably coherent combination of specific issues, rather than condemning something so vague as "the American lifestyle"
