I can't disagree with what you've said. He had a chance to own up to his crime both in public and behind closed doors with the commissioner. In each case he lied until his back was against the wall. When that happens it makes me mad enough to say forget the plea deal - run him through the system and throw the book at him. I still believe in second chances but its really hard to think that way when you're not certain the person would have owned up to the crime unless his feet were held to the coals. Good people make bad choices but the mark of a good person (in part) is owning up to those mistakes, feeling remorse and attempting to move forward in a contrite, dignified way.
