I would think that would bother you as well. Yeah, I think that's going a bit too far, but how many people really agree with it? You would be surprised how many well educated Latinos in LA support the concept at least in theory. I know two of those leaders on the video clip I posted and have heard what they say in private company. However, I never thought they would have the cojones to voice those thoughts publicly. Apparently, things have changed significantly in LA since I left. Latinos have experienced a great deal of discrimination at the hands of whites in the Southwest. They are very angry. I understand the anger and regret that it has happened. However, when they talk secession, I pay attention. CA is an important state to this country and we can't afford to lose it for economic reasons if for nothing else. As an aside, when I lived in LA, I never took seriously when Latinos would go off on Aztlan. Like you, I thought it was nonsense. However, they would never ever have said something like that in a public demonstration.....not like they are doing now. That has me worried. In all honesty, I don't think you've seen the extent of the problem that the West has been experiencing for 20 years. I probably haven't; on the other hand, I don't think screwing people over who are just looking for an opportunity is a solution. What about the people on the other side. Here in Seattle, I have seen white people doing the work that Latinos normally do in LA. It surprised me considerably when I first got here. What I've learned is that these white people more money for the same work. So what happens to poor whites in LA? The only way Latinos make this work at the pay they receive is to overcrowd where they live and pay less rent. Whites won't do that. In addition, there is a significant cost to not having these 12 million people on the books. Most don't have car insurance. When there is an accident and if the insurance company goes after them, they leave the country. When they have a health problem or a pregnancy, they go to the local emergency room. Do you think they pay the bill? Rarely. It is estimated that illegals send over $40 billion out of this country every year. How can that possibly be a good thing for the US? In the end, Americans pick up the tab with higher car and health insurance premiums and higher taxes. That may be okay for you but it isn't for me.In addition, the issue of maintaining the borders is a important one which you seem to want to ignore. And that truly surprises me.....a nation that can't control its borders is at significant risk for all kinds of problems. I would think you would understand that issue. Eh. Honestly, I think we have much, much bigger problems to worry about. I disagree. IMO lax borders are a luxury in this day of international terrorism. It was just two years ago that two foreigners were stopped at the border north of me. They had plans to blow up LAX. If you think this is a minor problem, I am surprised.
