Actually I think it was the traveling Gypseys working the carnival circuit that initially fired their own dwarf brethren out of cannons....

That is correct, a lot of Germans were roasted alive, most of them old men, women and their - albeit Nazi - children.

But that was done from a fairly safe position high up in the skies and it wasn't done by Germans either.

Remember, back then, a good German was a dead German.
And remembering your Machiavelli, you do know that in order to take over a country the bad guys with all their families must be up rooted.
