You're making my point for me.

Scaling and reliability are so poor in Intel's architecture that they can't offer systems beyond dual socket.

They're going to try moving the FSB to the chipset next (four FSB's on a chipset) as temporary solution until they figure out how to copy hypertransport.

Sometimes those kluges work well, sometimes they fail miserably. We see how this one does. Intel has often done a great job of doing it hard way, but sometimes the communications bridges their architecture forces them to make work (like moving the FSB to the chipset) turns out to be a bridge too far.
