"It's not the Vietnam War, but the lessons of World War II that are applicable to Iraq."

Umm, right. At this point, the author becomes detached from reality.

The Iraq war has cost us in excess of $500 billion. To bring the military back up to the condition before the war and to care for the wounded to date will cost another $500 billion and likely more.

And it will only be that low if we pull out immediately. If we stay, the costs will be higher. Much higher.

And for what? Iraq has been in a state of civil war for over a year. That isn't going to improve. Any hope of that going away will require at least an order of magnitude more troops.

Not a prayer that will happen.
