Well, if you go back and read about some of the old neocon pipe dreams from back when they were in the wilderness, they dreamed of the fictional "Syriana", a middle east nation that had a weak centralized government friendly to the U.S. From there the U.S. could export both its military might and its economic power. This nation would be secular, have lots of oil for sale and serve as a model for the rest of the Middle East.

Guys like Bill Kristol and the rest of the neocon guys are all on record as believing that Iraq could be this fantasy land once Saddam was gone.

Simplistic, naive....foolish.

I don't know that Mr. Bush yet realizes it won't work.

(All I keep coming up with for explanation is lack of vision and lack of real world experience or commonsense though. :-(
