True, but kids seem to be going to the doctor pretty often, especially when young.

Kids seem to be going to the doctor more often than they used to. Perhaps that's because their parents have insurance. I'm not sure to what extent that's necessary or desirable. Many/most ankle sprains don't require a doctor. (I sprained my ankle two weeks ago. Never occurred to me to see a doctor.) And there's no point in seeing one for a cold or an earache. Doctors can't fix them. But kids get hauled in anyway. For kids too young to tell you what hurts, yes, they probably need to go pretty often. But not older kids unless they're sickly. Which more kids seem to be these days.

However, a visit to the doctor for a kid with a runny nose doesn't cost that much. I would think that it would make sense to just pay that out of pocket and carry catastrophic insurance.
