Wayne, your idea is a good one. But currently, the reason gays want to call their union marriage is for the financial benefits married folks get. Health care for their spouses, tax breaks that are nearly criminal in a system that victimizes the unmarried, superior Social Security and Medicare coverage, etc. Your system would change that, but it isn't in power yet.

Libertarianism is attractive to many, but it has no power and never will. Andy Jackson squashed them way back when and they will never recover to have any power in the USA. Another party may rise to replace one of the two main ones, but, as The Who used to sing, "Here comes the new boss, just like the old boss." Republicans replaced Whigs, but they didn't really have any new ideas outside of getting rid of slavery, which the Whigs already supported.

So, why would a gay man who believes in traditional Republican values, such as taking huge bribes from corporations, declaring war on weak countries while kissing up to strong countries, destroying the Bill of Rights, ex the second Amendment, getting rid of habeas corpus, etc., but happens to be gay, become a Libertarian? Losing an election never feathered anyone's bed, straight or gay.

Wayne and Knighty, i'm not sure craig wanted to be a republican. i think he wanted wealth, power and influence and being a republican was his only path to achieve his three goals.
