Shaheed is not just an arabic word - it also translates equivantly into Urdu or Hindi. Same meaning. A good example is Shaheed Bhagath Singh - fought for Indian independance against the British Empire, lost his life in the fight, thats when he was referred to as Shaheed Bhagath Singh.
