In short, unlike yesterday's Vietnam, the Greater Middle East (including Turkey) is the central strategic arena of the 21st century Ha! No way. China and India will be infinitely more important to the 21st century than the Middle East countries. The Gulf countries have oil, and the rest of the region is of ZERO importance to most of the world. If the governments in the Gulf region can't manage themselves enough to pump and export oil, they will rapidly be be removed and replaced by a proxy government that is able to pump and export oil. To forecast that THAT area will be the center of the 21st century is silly.

If we pull out it WILL be a mess and it's ALL because of Bush, the Neo-cons and the Republicans. If we hadn't gone in in the first place Saddam would still be there as a balance to Iran and we could have used our troops and dollars to turn Afghanistan into a successful country. The BEST we can hope for now is a Shiite controlled Iraq that is very close to Iran. Of course we'll always have the Kurds and they love us. We'll probably have troops in Kurdistan for the next hundred years trying to protect it from the Turks and Iranians. This will probably be all MOOT in the next year anyway because we will probably be bombing Iran soon and that will UP the stakes BIG TIME before this IDIOT leaves the Whitehouse.
