Sounds like it could be a pretty good deal. One would need far more than just the 10M to buy the portfolio. You need money to hang on to them -- upkeep, security, taxes, insurance while waiting for things to rebound. Problem is real estate was the industry of San Diego.

what exactly are you buying.... a portfolio of mortgage backed securities with subprime and prime all lumped together in an area, or only those in arrears or what?

30% on the dollar sounds a little unbelievable to me for a quality portfolio
