The Chutney is kind of sweet/hot. I eat it with pork and chicken, and just love it.

The recipe is based on a mango chutney recipe that belonged to a friend's mother who was Hawaiian.

Pear Chutney

7 1/2 lbs semi ripe pears (after chunking up)
3 lb brown sugar (2 dark, 1 light)
1 lb golden raisins
1 lb currents (1 6oz box)
1/4 lb garlic
1/4 lb fresh ginger
1 large onion
18 - 20 chili peppers
scant amount of salt

Put garlic, peppers, onion & ginger through a grinder. In a large pot combine all ingredients & boil slowly for 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

Put up in jars the size of your choosing.
