As is usual for my cynical self, I see the rhetorical conjoining of homosexual desires with pedophilia to be a conscious effort to tar the one with the other.

All you have to do is watch a few old Lee Atwarer commercials and read a little Frank Lutz (Atwater's successor) to get there. Doesn't take cynicism, just a few inferences.

I'm sure it is in certain circumstances- but the people who abhor homosexuality occasionally seem to abhor it more than, say, pederasty. So I do think in some cases what you are seeing is just general abhorence (whether generated by latent tendencies, or upbringing).
