It's not subsidized. In the last few years, the Feds have offered long term care insurance and now dental insurance. It's strictly voluntary and not subsidized or part of compensation. They just package it for convenience. Presumably they can get a group discount but that's all the break there is in it. I took the long term care insurance. I figured they knew what they were doing in putting together good plans and the convenience of having it deducted from my pension was attractive. I wasn't impressed with the dental insurance.
