Yet Another New Nokia Closing High

There was a lot of red on my screen today and Nokia (NOK) and Nokia chip supplier STMicroelectronics (STM) were practically the only bright spots. Volume traded was relatively high on both (15.37 million NOK shares).

The NASDAQ composite closed down today at 2,774.76 (-24.50 -0.88%). but NOK closed on NYSE today at its 2007 intraday high of $38.86 (+$0.39, +1.01% for the day after closing up $1.16, +3.11% yesterday). This is NOK's 2nd consecutive daily close above $38 since January 24, 2001, 6¾ years ago, and MSN now calculates their market cap at $152.94 Billion.

NOK1V closed earlier today on the HEX at €26.69 (+0.38%) down from its intraday high of €27.26. This on top of closing up 1.76% yesterday at €26.59.

Reaction to Motorola's and Ericsson's earnings reports tomorrow will probably color sector sentiment to some degree so the week ending close will be interesting, and it will be particularly interesting to see if NOK can close above $38 for the week on NYSE for the 1st time since January 2001. Worst case it should hold at least in the $37s. Essentially it appears that NOK has grown into the markets high expectations for its Q3 earnings results.

$39+ ... 3rd Straight New Nokia Closing High

Lots of red on my screen again on another down NASDAQ Day (2,750.86 down 23.90, -0.86%) but NOK (and MOT) closed in the black.

On NYSE NOK hit an intraday high of $39.17 today and closed at $39.10 (+$0.24 +0.62% for the day). This was the 1st time NOK has seen the sunny side of $39 since January 24, 2001, 6¾ years ago.

NOK1V closed earlier today on the HEX at €27.23 (+2.02%) after closing up 0.38% at €26.69 yesterday and up 1.76% Tuesday at €26.59.

NOK is up 91.1% CYTD in US currency (and 76.2% in Euros) and still sports a very modest TTM and Forward P/E.
