"Craig Launches Bid to Save Job

"To the dismay of fellow Republicans, Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID) launched a determined drive to save his seat today, vowing to stay in office if his guilty plea in a men’s room sex sting can soon be overturned," the Idaho Statesman reports.

"Craig's decision to deploy his legal team marked a reversal of his pledge to resign on Sept. 30, and raised the possibility of a protracted legal and political struggle, much of it playing out in public, with gay sex at its core."

However, The Hill notes Senate GOP leaders "renewed their effort to force" Craig to resign, "but that political pressure appeared to leave Craig unfazed and some Republicans fearing that the embattled conservative could hang on until 2008."
