And if we stop funding narcotic units then we should see a stop to the Rambo no knock raids that they keep hosing up and killing the wrong folks. Not only safer from reduced drug crime but safer from the wanna be special forces clowns on the swat team.

Seems like a win/win to me.

Amen to that. The Drug War is the biggest threat to our freedoms (and our tax money) around.

30 years later - and what has it gotten us?

General principle: the government should just get the heck out of private citizen's lives, unless that activity directly threatens other people's lives.

If I want to drink, smoke tobacco (or a joint), that should be fine. But if I drive under the influence then I go to jail. Responsibility for actions. A simple conservative principle.

But we've got these huge tax-funded entities (like the DEA) who have a vested interest in an expanding police state.

Plus, the pharmas are the biggest drug-pushers around.

Something like 40% of US kids are on amphetamines (such as Ritalin). Hey - I thought if you pushed drugs on kids you should go to jail?

And a majority of adults are taking one drug or another, particularly anti-depressives.

And let's not forget the steroids ...

If drugs are made legal, who is going to pay for the robberies, damages, rape and murder committed by the folks who used the drugs?

Are the cities? Are the States? Or are the Feds?

Will the top 50% of the taxpayers who pay 90% of the taxes already, have to continue paying MORE taxes for the folks who use drugs, newly legalized, but don't have money to pay for the damage they have caused??
