Nothing is for certain. An intelligent committed band of pals can change things. If the eco condition can materially change, there is far more chance of success.

"Arafat liked it that way" Arafat's decline began when he tried to become a "Statesman" rather than a warrior. When your whole life involves carrying an AK-47 and "intifada", then the idea of becoming a farmer or factory worker loses a lot of appeal, even if it could present a more "normal" life to your people. As the demographic becomes even "younger" in that part of the world I don't see things cooling down for quite a while.
