We started our system by:

- pulling everything out of the freezer and writing everything down that was in it by shelf;

- keying it into an Excel spreadsheet and sorting it by shelf;

- posting it on the fridge and trying to keep it updated.

I think it is time to do that all over again! Maybe we can label stuff that isn't labeled.

I do keep a lot of stock in the freezer also - is really handy for stir-fry meals and sauces etc.

Now my oldest daughter has the right idea - her freezer looks bare compared to ours. She has about 2 things per shelf in hers and so it is easy to know what she has in it. We succumb to the "if it is leftover, freeze it" syndrome - probably a big mistake!

BTW, one of the handiest containers are those round quart plastic containers we get at the Chinese take-out.
