To be trite or maybe not...such a thing happened in israel.

and yes the circumstances involved were different....maybe.

but,revolutionaries are often called gangsters and criminals ,yet go on to govern states.

yitzhak shamir is one such example.

statesmen are often no better than criminals themselves.....it is eazier to steal with a pen.
