This may be a bit of a sidetrack to the discussion, but I try to use both pessimism and optimism in my junior resource investing by using a basket approach.

Because these are risky speculative stocks which individually could lose much of their value for reasons both intrinsic and extrinsic, I am pessimistic to a greater or lesser extent on each one. But by building a basket of potential multi-baggers, success of which in just one or two can more than make up for a complete loss of value on every other stock in the basket, I can be much more optimistic about the collective outcome of my individual investing decisions.
