Polanco helps Tigers overcome Mariners
________________________________________________________

Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Placido Polanco went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI to lead the Detroit Tigers past the Seattle Mariners, 12-6, at Comerica Park.

Brandon Inge belted a two-run homer for the Tigers, who have won four straight and currently trail Cleveland by 4 1/2 games in the AL Central. They also trail the Yankees by three games in the wild card race.

Ivan Rodriguez added four hits, including a home run, two runs scored and two RBI in the victory.

Detroit starter Nate Robertson lasted just 4 2/3 innings after allowing five runs -- four earned -- on seven hits. Zach Miner (3-3) picked up the victory in relief.

Jeff Weaver (6-12) started for Seattle and was roughed up for seven runs -- six earned -- on nine hits in five-plus frames.

Adrian Beltre went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored for the slumping Mariners, who have lost 13 of their last 14.

With the game tied, Detroit scored three runs in the sixth inning to take control. Sean Casey opened the frame with a double and Inge followed with a homer. Later in the frame, Magglio Ordonez doubled to center scoring Polanco, who singled and advanced all the way to third on a wild pitch.

Seattle pulled within 8-6 in the seventh after Raul Ibanez tripled and scored on Beltre's ground out.

The Tigers loaded the bases in the seventh and blew the game open after Polanco doubled down the left-field line to clear the bases to make it 11-6.

Rodriguez hit a two-out solo homer in the eighth to cap the scoring for the Tigers.

The visitors grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first when Jose Vidro scored as Ibanez reached base on Inge's fielding error.

Detroit responded with three runs in the home half of the inning to take the lead. Curtis Granderson and Polanco hit consecutive singles to open the inning and with one out, Granderson scored as Ordonez reached base after Jose Guillen made an error in right. Carlos Guillen was then intentionally walked to load the bases and Rodriguez singled to left scoring Polanco. Timo Perez followed with a base hit to plate Ordonez.

Seattle made it 3-2 in the second after Guillen singled to left with two outs scoring Ichiro Suzuki.

The M's then tied the game as Beltre led off the third with a home run. In the home half of the inning, Perez gave the Tigers back their lead with a run- scoring single.

The see-saw continued as Yuniesky Betancourt led off the fourth with a homer to tie the game, but Detroit moved back in front at 5-4 as Polanco lofted a sac-fly in the bottom of the frame.

In the fifth, Beltre doubled with one out and scored on Kenji Johjima's two- out single to once again even the score.

Game Notes

Granderson needs one steal to become only the second player in MLB history with at least 30 doubles, 20 triples, 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in a single season. Willie Mayes is the only other player to achieve the feat...This was Polanco's first four RBI game of the season. He also now has a career-best 175 hits...Detroit finished with 15 hits while the Mariners had 10.
