One gallon of gasoline = 113,125 BTUs
Hey, let's make them feel good. :-)

So 1 1/2 gallon of gasoline has 169688 BTUs.

1 gallon of ethanol has 84,000 BTUs.

So it takes a bit over 2 gallons of ethanol to equal one gallon of gasoline in energy content.

IOW, you fill up twice as often on a long trip. :-)
