Women's right to choose is endangered by the Supreme Court- but the people of this country by a pretty fair majority want Roe upheld- and by a much more substantial majority than elected Bush (if we can call that a "majority :-)

While the ideas Bush and his cronies may hold endanger abortion rights, it is unlikely they can put them in to permanent effect.

And I don't think the social safety nets are under terrible attack- except from insolvency. It is true that some of the smaller programs have been hurt- and some of those were good programs- but that's the pendulum. If people can put together what happened with the mortgage banking problems of today, and things like the S&L crisis of yesteryear- they may realize that privatization leaves open loop holes you can drive a lot of money through, and thus it is no guarantee of safety- and in fact all that government "regulation" sometimes keeps people from looting.
