Re: And what is with Johan benching Tulsa instead of Tigerton?

I think it would be very telling whether or not Johan follows up with a Tigerton review over the next couple of weeks.

Re: Yeah, your retrospective anand link was 2.66 Core2 vs 3GHz K8! Phenom is going to be an expensive flop on the desktop.

From what I can deduce, the 2.5GHz Phenom launch is going to be fairly floppy. But it will get a few parts on the roadmap in the $300 range (between the Q6600 and Q6700). It's a net positive for ASPs, but will it be enough to improve margins...? Q4 obviously won't be a sizable impact, and until AMD comes out with higher clock speeds, Intel will tighten the screws with Penryn in the mean time.

Phenom 3.0GHz will still underperform Penryn most likely, but I think it will be enough for AMD to get a few more parts at competitive price points. It will be another net positive for ASPs.

But my prediction for AMD's profitability is that you won't be seeing it any time soon. Phenom's a more expensive part that only manages to close the gap a bit versus Intel on the desktop, not beat them overall. And meanwhile, Barcelona is far from a clean kill, either. In fact, it's almost precisely what I expected.
