Yep, we had the high boot like Smithee's pic and we also had the lower top boondockers. We were told not to try to polish them. I didn't wear the boondocker as often as the high top. Neither did most of the other guys. I was a construction surveyor in a combat engineer battalion. We were "in the field" most days and the high top boot just worked better. There were rattlesnakes everywhere we went, so protection was a must.

I kept both pairs of boots for about 40 years before tossing them. They could have gone another 40 with new heels and soles.
