What is your point? Because the Emperor said "adopt democracy" that the Japanese got on board? You don't think it might also have been that their cities lay in ruin and their military shattered? They surrendered unconditionally?

Or should I say.......>??!??<

Are you one of those who thinks democracy will just bloom in Iraq because its the best way to live?

THAT, (of course!), would make reforming the homogeneous Japanese society *much easier*, once you got the Emperor to sign-on.

(Rather different from the case of a very heterogeneous society, with multiple religions and vast numbers of different ethnic groups and tribes --- most with many, many grievances of historic proportions with all the others. :-)
