Actually the key measure is degree days over 50 degrees fahrenheit. For Cabernet Sauvignon and clones of it Napa Valley and a few adjacent are as good as it gets. For Pinot and Chardonnay Oregon is more suited. For Rhone style grapes southern California is more suited.

Smithee is the wine expert of my acquaintance. He lives right in the middle of the wine country. I know next to nothing about wine. I just remember the latitude thing from a winery visitation near Seattle when I went up to view some seedlings at a nursery.

I do remember an article about some grapes that made better wine in cool country, or something like that.

I like scotch or whiskey. I don't really drink it; just let it soak in through my tongue. Once every other day or so if I have it.
