Jim, I would love to have been a fly on the wall during the exchanges between Mayor Cortez and the INS. I have no doubt that it would have been a ready-made, most hilarious comedy skit.

Your points are well taken. To We the People of the United States of America, "Show us your papers" is anathema.

FWIW, I have not seen my birth certificate in decades. Sure, I can send off for a certified copy, but who is to say I am the person requesting it and having a right to that document?

On another note, I had occasion to request a duplicate Social Security card several years ago. I was astonished at how quickly the local office produced the duplicate and how much information from the original application (which I had submitted long ago and far away in the previous century) that agency currently still had on file. - Holly

Arpaio Immigration Hotline on Moving Billboards
September 17th, 2007 @ 11:12am
by Jon Zimney/KTAR

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's fleet of moving billboards advertising his illegal immigration hotline hit the streets today.

The trucks these will be seen all over county and city streets.

Arpaio makes no apology and admits this will inflame illegal immigration activists,

"They're gonna blast me. They've already blasted me. They already put the KKK on me. They've already compared me with Germany. I know it's coming."

The message on the trucks is written in red on a white background. It says "Do not illegally enter. Help Sheriff Joe fight illegal immigration and trafficking."

The phone number to his infamous illegal immigration hotline, 602-876-4154, is also posted on the sides of the vehicles.

Twelve trucks including eight inmate transport vehicles, two 24-foot semi trucks and two 28-foot semis are part of the fleet.

Arpaio says he was inspired since his moving billboards promoting his animal neglect and abuse hotline worked so well.
