That's a good one. My rule is never buy a car so nice that I don't feel comfortable putting a bike rack on it, or getting in and out of it in my exercise clothes.

For years my fellow bike riding friends used to wonder why, in a city where anything not tied down gets stolen, no one ever got their very expensive bike racks stolen even while bikes are stolen regularly. We decided that the kind of people who routinely buy stolen property from people who steal stuff off cars would never have both a bike and a car.
