Smithee, I believe that pictured uniform dates from the days prior to jet planes, and, in those days, stewardesses were required to be registered nurses.

Eeeeyup, I flew a few times during the dark ages; that is, the time before jet airplanes. It took about 8 hours to get from Los Angeles to St. Louis. It was ever so much fun! I was just a little kid then.

Mother tells me that when I was an infant we flew all over the country, because of Father's military obligations. Of course, I have no memory of those trips. - Holly
