A '76 d'Yquem, what can one say?? I actually also like the Gewurztraminer from Alsace - but that is almost Germany, less France ;)
I'm not big into whites but excellent value can be found at low cost in Italy, like Grechietto or of course many Pinot Grigios. Or some of the Sardinia whites.

My rule with Italian Whites. If it is not named Pino Grigio and it has a weird name, then it is going to be excellent. It has worked 100% of the time.
