I think this is petty and short sighted because Apple was trying to create the impression that they're looking out for the best interests of their core customers. By cutting out iTunes from the equation they're just giving another reason for those core customers to be irritated.

If they had included iTunes in the deal, you could have made the same argument and said they should have given back cash (or the full $200). You arent going to satisfy everybody, and this move by Apple seems to have quieted most of the complaining.

Thanks for the clarification. I hadn't read the limitations and exclusions, so I wasn't sure of your meaning. Now that I understand, I'd have to agree. I perceive it as a minor irritant, but an irritant to some none the less.

But, if iTMS purchases were included, then the credits would go to mostly aid the music labels and not Apple. As a stock holder, I'd rather see it go to sell more merchandise. Another positive, people looking for items to apply the credit to, get even more familiar with Apple's offerings.

gross margins on itms are too low to participate in this, I am sure it just comes down to that.

Apple only gets .04 per song.

Why do you think that iTunes is not being offered as part of the rebate?

Apple's Web site says the credit isn't good for iTunes gift cards but the page is incorrect and is being revised, spokeswoman Natalie Kerris said. Users can't add the credit directly to their iTunes accounts.
