LC, my only response to your post on poker and chess is that I believe poker, chess and go are all really played exactly the same way, just different styles. Even football is played the same way. Offensively and defensively. There are defensive games and offensive games. Some chess players are very agressive and others play defense (defense is aways a weak play in all three games in my mind). I listened to Africa's new chess phenom just yesterday on NPR. He said after just 3 moves in chess there are 9 million options and he said he uses unusal tactics to confuse his apponents and he is very agessive. Re chess: Remember the movie "searching for bobby fisher". True story and the thesis was, attack, attack, attack. Doyal (dolly) Brunson's book Super System is prefaced " a lesson in power poker". The very best chess and poker players are all very agressive. "When I sit down to a game my intent is to destroy it". That is a quote from Doyal Brunson (all time great player of the world) and exactly how I play poker as well. I try to scare the table to death by constant raising because I want to control the game and I want people to be afraid to bet because they have to worry about a raise from me. That way I get to control the game and raise with my good hands and draw cheaply to my drawing hands (although as often as not, I will be agressive with my drawing hands making "false bluffs)i.e. trying to steal the pot, but if I am called I still have an out. Brunsons main play is stealling lots of small pots and then when someone does outdraw him all they win is their money back. and as brunson says 'sometimes I get a hand" and bluffers and agressive players get paid off with their good hands whreas tight plaers do not, because everyone knows they are only playing good hands. Agressive, bluffing players like Phil Helmuth might be playing anyting. A person who only calls is called "a calling station" and considered the weakest of all players. One cannot steal a pot if they do not bet. When I am playing in big games or tournements I am trying to steal every pot I can.
