I still have a wooden medallion given me by that little wiry Japanese man. He said his name was "Kanada."

A year or so later I showed that medallion to a young lady who could read Japanese and asked her what the Japanese characters meant.

"Kanada," she said.

An aside: at the end of that tour of Japanese foresters, their tour guide said it was his duty to know where ladies of the night could be found, and could I help him out?

As I had no idea, I had to demure.

Your story is compelling. Thanks for relating it.
