Laz, I do not know where the number eleven came from. I went to Peet's official homepage and found only a few Peet's stores in San Francisco proper. I went to Starbuck's official homepage and found dozens of Starbuck's stores in San Francisco proper, which I believe you have documented in one of your links in the post to which I am replying. So . . . why are you arguing with me when we are in agreement? <g>

As for the charm and ambiance of the Richmond District, I'm sure you've heard the old saw about <fill in the blank> being in the eye of the beholder. I know it looked quite charming and quaint on TV.

"Have you ever noticed that SF is the ONLY city in CA where 101 ceases being a freeway and turns into a city street? Ever wonder WHY?"
Because San Francisco was there first? <g>

If you travel further north, say, up toward Eureka, Crescent City, et cetera, and points in between not only will you not fall off the edge of the earth, you will find that in many spots US 101 becomes an ordinary four-lane highway. Also, US 101 entertwines and "co-mingles" with California Highway 1 in some areas and becomes a winding 2-lane highway. - Holly
