Yes. Peet's is a local San Francisco Bay Area chain. They have many more than 11 in that area. They have 2 not far from us.

If San Francisco COULD govern the entire Bay Area, I'm sure they would have set the limit such as to prevent expansion of any other chain. They are notorious for leftist politics, anti-capitalist sentiment, pro-unionism, and protection of their own merchants from competition.

At one time, SF was the largest port in CA. The port was dominated by the Longshoremen's Union and the mob - in cahoots, of course. Then came container ships, which could be loaded and unloaded much faster than conventional freighters. The Longshoremen would have none of them. Oakland, across the bay from SF, was largely free of that union. It allowed container ships and built docks and cranes to load and unload container ships.

SF's glory days as a port are gone; rarely does any ship put in there. Oakland's port is thriving.

Sic transit gloria mundi.
