what do people think is a superior experience to Quicktime?

I don't know of any. My experience with Quicktime has been pretty good. Doren seems to have some legacy entanglement issues, but I'm sure that can happen with any software that has been around for a long time.

I couldn't stand Real's media player. I downloaded it, used it for 10 minutes and then deleted and avoided it from then on. What a piece of rubbish!

Windows Media Player (11 or some such thing) is better than QuickTime. In fact, I find QT player quite poor on Windows. But of course, WMP doesn't play QT files. Real is terrible too.
