The Democrats will very likely enact Jim Webb's proposal to mandate the amount of time a serviceman must spend outside of a combat zone before returning. This will serve to require pulling out many more of the troops in 2008 than the President might otherwise wish. National Guardsmen finding their tours extended twice on this round alone....it is not playing well in Peoria, or anywhere else. The dems already have their wedge issue and the President is handing it to them. Now we have republicans like Warner and Hagel and Luger breaking ranks openly with the President. More will follow. I do think the President just wants to hand the mess to the next President, whomever it may be..... Am I the only person who thought the President's address last week was particularly weak?
