I think Jury Duty is one of the most important civic functions a person can perform. I would like to serve again. I begged off on two of my three summons for legitimate reasons.

My problem was I worked in an objective driven environment and the other members of the jury were only too happy to get off early because they were away from their jobs or families. I wanted to complete the mission. But then I was being paid my salary while on jury duty and they probably weren't.

The jury foreman claimed to have been retired from a high level government post, which I doubt based on his performance. I think he had watched too many trials on TV, or maybe was an alcoholic himself and sympathetic to the plight of the defendant.

One thing that impressed me during the trial was that the attorneys on both sides were talking to the jury as if we were the most important people in the world. I didn't get the feeling that they were play acting to an audience like on Law and Order.
