You forget mike, that Baghdad is a mixed area. It's too big and important for either Sunni or Shia to give up.

The rightwing wants to blow up the fight with the Shiites by attacking Iran sooner rather than later. $100 oil is within thir grasp.

The big problem is the US itself, its dependence on oil and its rightwing love of war profiteering.

Pass a law to make any kind of war profit illegal.

We will be home in 6 months.

The Kurds are claiming themselves an independent state, outlawing the Iraqi flag, digging ditches and going after the oil fields. Are we now responsible for their security and safety if Turkey or the rest of Iraq objects? The place is a mess and it is up to the people who live there to figure out their own squabbles because we obviously aren't doing anything helpful.
